💜 Life & Learning Adult Day Program

A Place to Learn, Grow, Connect & Belong

Rockin’ The Spectrum’s Life & Learning Adult Day Program is designed for adults 18 and older with developmental disabilities, including adults with higher support needs.

We know finding the right adult program can be especially challenging for families whose loved one needs more individualized or hands-on support to safely and successfully participate.

At Rockin’, higher support needs do not automatically mean someone cannot participate. We take the time to learn about each individual—their communication, sensory needs, behaviors, safety needs, daily living skills, strengths, interests, and the level of assistance they require.

Our goal is to provide a welcoming and supportive environment where participants can learn at their own pace, build independence, make connections, develop meaningful skills, and experience a sense of purpose and belonging.

💙 Supporting Higher Support Needs

Our program is designed to support individuals with a range of abilities and support needs.

A participant may need additional support with:

We understand that behavior is communication and that an adult's developmental abilities may not always match their chronological age.

Rather than focusing only on what someone cannot do, we look at what support they need to participate successfully.

Each participant's needs are reviewed individually to make sure our program can provide the appropriate level of support while maintaining a safe and supportive environment for everyone.

💙 Who Is Our Program For?

Our program is for adults 18+ with developmental disabilities who may benefit from continued opportunities to develop:

We recognize that every adult communicates and learns differently.

Some participants communicate verbally. Others may use limited speech, pictures, gestures, communication devices, or other forms of communication.

Some participants may need occasional assistance, while others may need more hands-on support throughout their day.

We Meet Participants Where They Are.

🌟 Learning Through Everyday Experiences

Life skills are practiced through meaningful, hands-on activities rather than expecting everyone to learn or participate in the same way.

Activities may include:

Activities and support can be adapted based on each participant's abilities and needs.

💜 Meaningful Work & Purpose

We believe adults with developmental disabilities deserve opportunities to contribute, learn new skills, and feel proud of what they accomplish.

Participants may help with projects that support Rockin’ The Spectrum and our community.

For example, participants in our Life & Learning Adult Day Program help put together our Rockin’ Sensory Bins.

Depending on their abilities and interests, participants may help with:

The goal isn't how quickly a task is completed.

The goal is participation, learning, independence, teamwork, and pride in contributing to something meaningful.

🌈 Success Looks Different for Everyone

There is no single definition of success in our program.

For one participant, success might be completing a task independently.

For another, it might be making a choice, communicating a need, asking for help, waiting for a short period of time, participating alongside someone else, or trying something new.

For someone else, success might simply be becoming comfortable enough to participate in a new activity.

We Celebrate Progress at Every Level.

🧩 Understanding Sensory Needs

Sensory needs can affect communication, participation, attention, comfort, and regulation.

Participants have access to sensory supports and opportunities to take breaks when needed.

We don't expect every individual to participate in every activity in the same way.

Sometimes participating means watching first.

Sometimes it means taking a break and trying again.

Sometimes it means doing only part of an activity.

That's okay.

Our goal is meaningful participation—not making everyone participate in exactly the same way.

💙 Building Safety Skills

Safety is incorporated into everyday learning at Rockin’ The Spectrum.

Depending on individual needs, participants may practice skills such as:

Safety skills are practiced within our program environment and adapted to each participant's developmental and communication needs.

💜 Families Are Part of the Team

Families and caregivers know their loved one best.

Before participation begins, we gather information about the individual's:

This information helps our team understand the individual and determine how we can best support them.

Each participant is considered individually to make sure the program can safely and appropriately meet their needs.

📅 Program Schedule

Tuesday & Thursday

Program participation and scheduling are based on availability and the individual's support needs.

Space is limited so that we can maintain a supportive environment and provide participants with the attention they need.
